Meet The Staff
Jenny Wells is the manageress of the shelter. Jenny has been the manageress here since 1991. Jenny often takes in and cares for some of our very old, sometimes terminally ill dogs. These dogs would be virtually impossible to re-home due to medical problems etc and the fact that no one wants a very old or ill dog. Woody is her latest dog and can often be seen in the office at the shelter.
Ruth is one of the full-time members of staff. Ruth works in the Reception/Office. She has a parrot called Okie. Ruth has a love of wildlife and birds. Ruth helps us with fostering some of our difficult or needy dogs. She has recently adopting a very shy little dog called Mr. Knuffles who also can be seen in the office at the shelter.
Cheryle has worked at the shelter since 1990. She works in the office and is now a part-time member of staff. She has a great sense of humour and is very interested in native and exotic birds and all wildlife. She is the Shelter's bird expert. She has 1 cat, 1 dog and a few resident pigeons. She has taken many dogs from the shelter over the years, old ones, disabled ones, you name it she's taken it home. Cheryle has adopted a little puppy called George who was found dumped with his brother on our doorstep.
Pauline started working at the shelter as a volunteer in April 1997. She has been working in the office as a part-time member of staff since 1999. Pauline has several cats of her own (which we have helped to supply of course). Pauline is always welcomed into the office when she brings in her home made cakes for us to sample!
Paul is the head of our cattery. Paul is responsible for all the homeless cats/boarding cats/stray cats that come through our doors. This obviously keeps him pretty busy. Paul has been working for the shelter since 1996. Paul has his own cat called Richie. He is a keen Everton supporter!
Gina is pictured here with one of our dogs (Khan). Gina has worked at the shelter since 1993. She is the head of her section, which is homeless dogs. She is responsible for designing, editing and typing up our Newshound - the shelter's very own newsletter (a very important and time consuming job). Gina also updates our website and answers our emails. Gina has one dog, Ollie who was hand reared as a puppy several years ago.
Ian is a full time member of staff who works on homeless and boarding dogs. He has been with us since 2000. Ian is a keen Liverpool supporter, but we don't hold that against him. Ian loves big dogs but more recently has been attached to smaller, fluffy ones!
Hazel is a full time member of the cattery staff, who has been with us since 2001. She also looks after the small animals when Sarah is not here. Hazel often fosters cats and kittens that need extra looking after. She has two tortoises, three cats and a dog called Tilly who came from our shelter.
Diane is a part time member of staff who works in the cattery. She looks after the intake cats and the boarding cats. Diane has been a volunteer at the shelter since 1996. She is married and has 3 children, 1 dog, 4 cats, 4 tortoises and 12 chickens. Diane also updates our website and answers our emails. She also regularly fosters needy animals from the shelter and hand rears the orphaned kittens too!
Wendy is a full time member of staff who is responsible for looking after the dogs that have special needs. Wendy has two children. Wendy has been walking dogs for us as a volunteer at the shelter for many years. Wendy has a dog called Fleur (adopted from the Shelter).
Sarah is a full time member of staff who runs the small animal and wildlife section. Sarah has 1 cat, 2 tortoises and 1 hamster. She is pictured here with Thirsty and Freda.
Ann is a part time member of staff who fills in where she is needed. Ann has been a volunteer here for a long time before becoming a member of staff. She has two cats that both came from the shelter. Ann loves white cats and we are regularly trying to home them to her.
Russell is a part time member of staff who fills in where he is needed. He started here as a volunteer. We have gleaming work surfaces and sparkling kennels and cat pens since Russell started working here as he does enjoy cleaning!
Richard is a part time member of staff who fills in where he is needed. He started volunteering in 2005 and became a member of staff in 2010. Richard has two cats of his own, one of which was adopted from the shelter. He is very keen to adopt a dog when his lifestyle is more suitable in the not so distant future hopefully.
Laura is a part time member of staff who fills in where she is needed. She is happiest working with the doggies! She has two dogs which were both adopted from the shelter. Laura has also recently adopted a rabbit from us.
Ruth is a part time member of staff who fills in where she is needed. She is happiest working on dogs and has a background in dog grooming. Ruth has her own grooming business and keeps our dogs neat and tidy when she has time. She has a dog of her own who was adopted from the shelter many years ago.
