Hi, my name is Bailey J J J J

Thank you for stopping to read this. As you can see, my name is Bailey and I am a 7  year old Staffi X, I came to this shelter via an RSPCA inspector.  After recovering from my injuries I have been looking for a new home for some months now. I do bark in my kennel but once outside of here I am a completely different dog. The staff decided that I needed a weekend away to see how I would behave in a home environment so I went to Bill’s house in Lewes; he is one of the volunteers here. I did wonder what he would be like to share a home with but the promise of a few extra food treats was too much temptation for me, here is a diary of my weekend J

Friday 22nd Feb

Bill collected me, my blanket, 3 kongs and a chew at 4 o’clock and off we went to his house, I didn’t mind the journey as I travel ok in cars. On arrival I had a good look around the house and garden and then we went for a walk. When in a new home I will want to follow you around for a while as it makes me feel safe, I do like to sit on the sofa with you or an armchair but if you tell me to get down then I will. When it came to bedtime I wanted to be near Bill so I slept in the bedroom. I do not bark in the night, even if a dog starts barking in the street at 1am !

Sat 23rd Feb

Up nice and early (yawn!) and off for a walk where I met my first dog of the weekend, a male Yorkshire Terrier who seemed very friendly, we chatted for 10 mins or so and then said our goodbyes. Back at home the post came through the door and I did bark a couple of times…we dogs like to do that J I started to feel more settled after my first night and looked forward to our long walk in the afternoon where we walked for miles, I loved it as there was so much to see and smell and I also found a lump of wood to play with, but don’t worry as I won’t bite your furniture and I just had to carry it home as you can see in the photo. I had some visitors as well, Ruth came over from the kennels and some neighbours knocked on the door, so lots of fuss from them J When it was time for bed Bill left the lounge and kitchen doors open so I could make up my own mind where to sleep, I was starting to feel settled so I slept on a blanket on the sofa.

Sun 24th Feb

Up early again and off for a long walk on Ashdown Forest with Bill and some of his family and I met another six dogs on this walk…all were friendly. Sadly by mid afternoon it was time to come back to the kennels. I do hope you have enjoyed reading this and have now got a better idea of what I am like, the pictures are from my weekend awayJ If you would like more information then please do ask the staff, I am not very good with cats and need time to settle in but I am enthusiastic, and will get very attached to you J

CAN YOU HELP WITH AN ELDERLY OR DISABLED CAT?  OR A CAT THAT MUST LIVE IN A FLAT?

Sometimes older cats or cats with special needs find themselves at our shelter.  We are always looking for special homes for these cats.  A large majority of these cats would be suitable to live indoors i.e. in a flat.

If you would consider offering a home please give your details to a member of the cattery staff.  We are compiling a list so that when these cats come in they do not have to stay here for months while they are looking for a home.

Please come in and talk to the cattery staff, if you have been passed for a flat cat.
